Shore Pulling Operation for the Barzan Pipeline Project, Qatar

We were awarded a contract to deliver the shore pulling operation for the Barzan Pipeline Project in Ras Laffan, Qatar.

The Barzan project included installation of a pipeline to deliver sour gas from three well sites with unmanned wellhead platforms, situated in the North Field off the north east coast of Qatar, to an onshore Gas Plan located at Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar.

We supported the project by supplying a winch package and operating the pull-in of two 34” gas export pipelines to the inlet gas reception facilities.

The winch package included an 800te linear winch, a Diesel Hydraulic Power Unit, and six personnel to cover a 24 hour operation. We also supplied 8.1km of 4 Inch rope and hydraulic powered storage spooling winches which was installed behind the linear winch to reel in the pull-wire.

A horizontal roller was installed to minimise the angle between the incoming pulling wire and the linear winch, and a back anchor was constructed behind the winch to transfer the pull force into the soil. A deflection roller was used to ensure that the pull wire was correctly aligned from the pull head to the linear winch.

The operation by the six experienced and skilled personnel, supplied by us, included the laydown, installation and commission of the linear winch, assisting during wire lay operations as required, and operating and maintaining the winch package.

The project was successfully completed earlier this year.
