ACE Winch Academy
The ACE Winch Academy aims to be the global leader in the provision of competent, certificated personnel for all aspects of winch operations for the offshore energy and renewable industries.
The Academy will provide training targeted to meet the needs of clients in all aspects of winch operation. In particular, bespoke training will be offered for clients that have placed manufacturing and hire orders for equipment.

By sharing ACE Winches’ competencies in winch design, manufacture and operation, the training offered seeks to maximise competitive advantage and to add value. The courses focus on the competent and safe deployment, management and operation of winches, enabling enhanced client performance.
Courses are structured at a number of levels, enabling individual clients to specify an appropriate training programme for their staff. The courses include:
1. Winch Familiarisation Course - 0.5 day
This course is aimed at industry entrants who are not involved in the management of winch operations and who require a working knowledge of the range and types of winch equipment.
2. Winch Familiarisation Course: Technical - 1 day
This course is aimed at engineering personnel who have not previously worked with winches. The programme studies the operational factors which affect winches and winch performance and addresses rotary, traction and linear winches.
3. Winch Supervisor Course - 2 days
This course is aimed at personnel who plan and supervise winch operations and addresses, in detail, the relevant legislation, method statements and risk assessments.
4. Competent Winch Operator Course - 3 days
This course is aimed at personnel who undertake the practical operation of winches and covers operations in a range of offshore applications. It provides the underpinning knowledge for assessment under the ACE Competent Winch Operator Framework. The course has a high practical content, utilising the ACE Winches Test Bed Facility at Montbletton, Banff.
