Project details

This £6.5 million contract to enable and support the load-out and installation of a jacket and topside for Malaysian Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE)/TPGM involved the hire of an extensive range of machinery from the ACE Hire Equipment portfolio. The equipment included 6 x 100te WLL Double Drum Diesel Mooring Winches, 8 x 70te WLL Single Drum Winches, 2 x 26te WLL Abandonment and Recovery (A & R) Winches, 1 x 50te capacity Spooling Winch, 12 x Diesel-driven Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs) and 20 SWL Running Line Monitors, ranging from 50te to 200te.

The first phase of the project involved the installation of the jacket, followed by the second phase of the float-over of the MCR platform topsides into position on the jacket. The equipment was operated by a team of certified ACE Hire Personnel, including a project manager, field project engineer and several winch operators and technicians on a rotational basis.

The process of winch equipment mobilisation and testing on ACE’s 750-tonne test bed facilities was completed in a record time of three weeks in August 2010. The first movement of equipment required 17 trucks to transport machinery from ACE Winches’ facilities to Aberdeen Harbour for a four-week journey by ship to the Caspian Sea. A further seven articulated vehicles delivered the second movement of materials by road to Kiyanli Yard in Turkmenbashi.
