The Heerema contract covered the design and manufacture of a winch package to be deployed on the deepwater construction vessel, Balder for work offshore Angola.
The three 30 tonne constant tension winches, powered by a 130kW HPU and stand alone air blast cooler units were used for tagging operations, helping to control loads with weights of upwards of 150 tonnes, suspended from cranes on the vessel. The winches were supplied with a bespoke PLC control system, which was developed in conjunction with Heerema to suit the customer's precise needs.
